Microsoft Dynamics CRM is already the muscle behind any carefully considered customer management solution. That’s what you have right? Of course you do, so you already know it’s an excellent web based solution with powerful Microsoft Outlook integration to extend its capability and reach into important data that is nestled in our customer records. However, the moment we leave that desk we leave the data behind with it.
Unless you’re living in a cave deep in the wilderness (and if you do, you’re not reading this are you?), then you know that companies like Google, Apple and certainly Microsoft are directing us to live, work and play and be more mobile than ever. For better or worse blurring the lines between work and play. As this trend continues, it makes less and less sense to crack open the laptop, drag out the charger, connect up to the WiFi, log onto the company VPN and launch either CRM or Outlook. By the time you have, you’ve pretty much committed the afternoon to whatever you told your kids would take “just a second.”

Dynamics CRM with Windows 8 RT/Pro. Free in the Microsoft App Store
For use Internet-facing deployments (IFDs) of Microsoft Dynamics CRM ONLY. Requires ADFS be installed and configured on your domain.
Enter the growing CRM Mobile applications for your tablet or phone. At the time of this writing there are greater than ten mobile apps for Dynamics CRM in the Apple App Store, six in the Microsoft Windows Store and eight available for Android on Google’s Play Store. Each of which has Microsoft’s homegrown app, free and ready to download for Dynamics CRM 2013. Each of these exhibit strengths and weaknesses in regards to connectivity, ease of use and back end requirements. While I won’t go into great detail on each, one example is Microsoft’s own app which requires ADFS federation be configured within your domain infrastructure, in many cases requiring a dedicated server used simply for the user authentication process. This provides greatly enhanced secure communication and gets you arguably the best CRM app available with extensive support for customizations. However if simple access to information is all you require the Resco CRM Mobile app will connect to CRM with very little extra work and is blazing fast. Others require third-party server applications to be running to act as a mediator for mobile communication and vary in complexity when it comes to configuration and deployment.
Regardless of what application you choose, it’s time to empower your staff with mobile access to Dynamics CRM. You’ll be getting the data you need faster, easier and in more places than ever. You’ll be able to get back to that family outing, or maybe the kids can get back to that Candy Crush Saga game they were playing before you swiped the tablet.
